Chris lectures on artificial intelligence at Aston, integrating his work on the GRiST clinical decision support system into his teaching. GRiST recently implemented a new machine learning feature that allows practitioners to compare their risk judgements with the consensus formed from thousands of previous judgements by other practitioners. This makes it an excellent case study in artificial intelligence.

Chris was asked to attend the awards by students from his module who were going in their role as members of the computer science student company, Beautiful Canoe. Silicon Canal is a non-profit which aims to nurture the wealth of tech talent in Birmingham by running events, providing resources, and connecting individuals and organisations in the city's technology ecosystem. The Silicon Canal Technology Awards celebrate talent within Birmingham's tech community, recognising individuals and companies from across the West Midlands.

It was an exciting evening attended by some of Birmingham's best technology professionals and start-ups, including people who GRiST is already collaborating with, such as Enlighten. Suzanne Edwards from Enlighten was an award winner, too, which bodes well for the joint venture with GRiST.
