GRaCE-AGE collaboration with European PICASO project

The PICASO project is developing a Europe-wide ICT platform to facilitate the secure, privacy-compliant sharing and management of care plans across sectors and services.

On January 11th, 2017, the first meeting of the PICASO Ethical Board took place, consisting of both project partners and external partners. Dr Buckingham, GRaCE-AGE  Principal Investigator, joined the ethics board as an external member to provide input based on his experience in the GRaCE-AGE project and the development of healthcare software.

Two main agreements were made at the board meeting:

1. The PICASO Ethical Board will act to ensure that the PICASO project trials are executed in an ethically sound manner, and in accordance with national and international ethical and legal requirements.

2. The PICASO Ethical Board is an advisory body to project partners and participating patients: formal decisions are only to be made by the Project Board or the European Commission.

The PICASO project is an important development in patient-focused integrated care platforms, and the ethical issues faced in these endeavours. Collaboration as part of the ethical board will allow for dissemination of valuable expertise between GRaCE-AGE and EU researchers over the course of the project.
